On September 3, 1609, Henry Hudson, an English Explorer employed by the Dutch Republic, entered what is now New York Harbor in an attempt to find a northwest passage to Asia. He searched every coastal inlet in the area and on the 12th, he took his ship, the Halve Maen (Half Moon) up the river which now bears his name for 150 miles to what is now Albany. Henry realized that the river was too shallow to go any further, so he turned around. His reports resulted in the Dutch settling the area and with them they brought these coins to the New World.
This set contains a Halve Maen charm and 3 replica coins: Joachimsthaler 1520, Ducatoon of Amsterdam 1601, and Dukaton of Zilveren Rijder 1716.
