This is a replica of a coin from Bohemia, a part of the Holy Roman Empire, which is now the Czech Republic, where Count Stephen Schlik discovered huge silver deposits at St. Joachim's Valley. The Count received a charter to mint coins of Silver from these mines in 1519 and they were called "thalers" for short (Thal means "Valley" in German).
They became very popular throughout Europe and the American Colonies. The U.S. Dollar originated from the thaler.
This replica coin is cast in lead-free pewter and then plated to match the original coin's appearance. Each coin comes packed with a header and a story on the back in a vinyl holder for easy display.
