Sweete Bag Accessories Kit

In the 17th century, people filled small cloth bags with fragrant flowers and herbs to perfume the air or their clothing. The bags were usually intricately embroidered with flowers, birds, fruits and other nature-themed designs. These bags could also be used to hold small items such as scissors, needles, thread, and thimble. The floral design on this scissor sheath and needle book is inspired by a sampler in Plimoth Patuxet's collections. Worked in 1664 by a girl with the initials "E C", the sampler is typical of those made by young women in both England and New England.
