In the 17th century, people filled small cloth bags with fragrant flowers and herbs to perfume the air or their clothing. The bags were usually intricately embroidered with flowers, birds, fruits and other nature-themed designs. The floral design on this sweet bag is inspired by a sampler in Plimoth Patuxet's collections. Worked in 1664 by a girl with the initials "E C", the sampler is typical of those made by young women in both England and New England.
The sweet bag you'll create with this kit is the perfect size for potpourri or for modern treasures. It measures 6" x 9" and is worked on 35-count cream linen. The design on the back can be personalized with your own initials. All materials and instructions necessary to complete this lovely accessory are included.
